Research Notes

Calla's father was very interested in precious stones. His hobby in later life was making jewelry for sale. His mother's name was Julia and he named his daughters Pearl, Ruby, Erma, (taken from Emerald), and Calla May, (perhaps a shortened version of chalcedon plus onyx). He liked the name Calla so much that he named his daughter from his second marriage Calla Joyce. When Calla Joyce was older, after finding she had a half sister with the same name, she legally changed her name to Joyce Ricardo Jackson before she was out of her teen years. She later married William O'Dea. Also, according to my mother, he used his middle name as Mr. Ernest Mathews for several years until his second daughter started school and his wife insisted he use the correct version. Part of those years he spent in Canada, returning when he had to register for the WWI draft.Maltby-309 14:57, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
