Biography

Elsie was born in 1831. She was the daughter of Norton Jacob and Emily Heaton. She passed away in 1891.

Elsie Pamelia Jacob was born in Busti, Chatauqua Co, New York to Norton Jacob and Emily Heaton Jacob. She was the eldest of eleven children. When she was ten years old, her family joined the LDS church and immigrated to Nauvoo, Illinois. When she was 15 years old and just before leaving Nauvoo, she was married to Jesse Snyder.

After arriving in Winter Quarters, Elsie and Jesse moved south to St. Joseph, Missouri with Jesse's brother, George and his wife, Sarah. The families moved further south in order to find work to support their families. They remained in that area until 1851. They had three babies during that time and only one son, Oscar, survived.

In 1851, Elsie and Jesse followed George and Sarah to Eldorado, California to find their fortune in the gold rush area. They settled on a ranch near Sacramento. In 1853, Jesse was killed during a fight with another man. Elsie was expecting a baby and gave birth to Orlando a few months later.

In the fall of 1853, Elsie and her two boys left for Salt Lake City with another family. Just two months later, George and Sarah also returned and within a few months, George took Elsie as his 2nd wife. Elsie and her family moved many times over the next twenty years. They lived in West Jordan, Bountiful, Wellsville, Wanship, Salt Lake City and Snyderville....wherever George developed a farm, saw mill or a boarding house. Elsie and George had six more children, four of which lived to adulthood. George died in 1887 in Park City and Elsie remained in Park City where most of her adult children lived.

She was a well educated woman and her children were also well-educated and prominent in law, mining, and civic duties. She died in 1891 and is buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Park City, Utah. ^[1]
