Susanna Jacobi was born around 1729, probably in the Darmstadt, Germany area. She is different from Just's second wife Anna because there was a 10-year age difference between the two women. She married Just Erdmann by 1772 and their first child was born in 1773.

There is a strong possibility that she was married previously to Just Erdmann, and that was to a Jacoby/Jacobi, meaning Jacobi was not her last name at birth. The only match for a Susanna Jacobi in the Kulberg Reports was as the wife of Johannes Jacoby, a miller from Isenburg. ^[1] There is a corresponding entry in the 1767 Norka census for a Susanna Jacoby, age 36, Reformed Lutheran from Isenburg, a widow, with two children named Johann Philipp, age 16, and Johann Georg age 9. ^[2] Generally, it looks like these two were a match and that her husband didn't survive the journey to the Volga River region of Russia. Susanna's age in 1767 was 36, giving her a birth year of 1731, in the ballpark for her age according to the 1798 Grimm census. Her children's ages are slightly off, but that is most likely a census taker error. When comparing the Kulberg Report ages to the 1767 census ages, there should only be about a 1-year difference between the two. Eldest son Philipp appeared to be the same age, and his brother Johann Georg was said to be 3 years younger than he was the previous year, an obvious impossibility. Johann Philipp was probably 17 and Johann Georg was probably 10 in 1767.

Neither of her Jacoby sons are named in the 1798 Grimm census, so they did not accompany their mother to her new home with her second husband. By 1775 to 1780, they were old enough to be married, and either remained in Norka or moved to different villages, none of which were Grimm.

In the 1798 Grimm census, Just Erdmann's eldest son Johann Peter's mother was probably his second wife Anna's son, while his two younger sons were actually half brothers whose mother was Susanna Jacobi.
