Biography

Jan Jacobs (Pekel) married Tryntje Johannis (Trijntje Joannis) on June 11 1747 in Cornjum. Both were from Cornjum. Children: Jacob (Jan 21 1748), Joannes (April 27 1749), Sjuwke (Dec 27 1750), Tjitske (Dec 13 1757, baptized Feb 12 1758, age 3 months) and Krijnom (Krynom, March 6 1763), all born in Cornjum.

Jan Jacobs and Trijntje Joannis made profession of faith in the Cornjum Reformed Church on May 3 1750. They are listed as being members there in 1752 and 1754. The Cornjum church wasn't big at that point - only 48 members are listed in 1752, and 62 in 1754. They are also listed as members there in 1772 and 1777.

Jan Jacobs is a very common name. There was a Jan Jacobs marrying in Cornjum in 1714, 1731 and 1747. One of them died in 1740, leaving 2 children. Only one was in the 1749 census.

The 1749 census lists Jan Jacobs living in Cornjum, Leeuwarderadeel, as a worker, 2 adults and 1 child in the home. Their net worth was 13 guilders 1 stuiver, very poor for the time and place. I believe Jan was also taxed in Cornjum on May 3 1750.

Best guesses at Jan’s parents: either Jacob Jansen and Frouk Minnerts, married May 13 1703 in Cornjum or Jacob Jansen and Sjuwke Clases, married on September 7 1721 in Cornjum. I believe the second set of parents is correct because they make more sense (time frame, marriage date & childen’s names). [1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jan by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jan:
