Biography

See notes under her husband.[1]

Antje or Antie Jacobs was a fairly common name. The following people will be considered here for being the parents of the wife of Fonger Broersma:

1. Antie to Jacob Sydses on Oct 27 1652. Jacob Sydses married Adriaentie Franses Hemert on April 12 1646. Found at [1] and [2]. They also had several other children. For many years they have been considered to be the parents of Fonger Broersma's wife Antje. And Adriaentie has a very, very nice lineage of Frisian nobility. So it's very tempting to keep these people listed as Antje's parents. However, honesty is more important than nobility. And several things point to Jacob's and Adriaentie's daughter as being the Antie Jacobs from Oudkerk who married Egbert Wytses from Giekerk in 1671. First, the 4 children's names of our Antje suggest her parents being Jacob and Attie and a grandfather being Willem. This does not fit Jacob Sydses' daughter at all. On the other hand, Egbert's wife had a sister Sytske and a sister and grandmother Auckien, names of his daughters. Third, Adriaentie Hemert moved in 1687 to Oudkerk. Egbert and Antje lived in Oudkerk, moved to Birdaard, then to Rinsumageest in 1677, then to Oudkerk in 1681. Adriaentie wouldn't have moved to Oudkerk without family to live with.

2. Antie to Jacob Falck on July 23 1648. Jacob Valck joined the Leeuwarden Reformed Church in 1642, and he baptized a son Jacob in 1646. We don't know which Jacob he was.

3. Annetie to Jacob Willems on Oct 5 1651. Attje Alberts from Leeuwarden married Jacob Willems from Leeuwarden, a worker on ebony, on March 26 1649. Children: Annetie (Oct 5 1651).

4. Antie to Jacob on July 5 1648. It's impossible to find out who this Jacob was.

5. Antie to Jacob Aulus on Nov 25 1646. Nothing more is known of him.

6. Antie to Jacob Ulenvelder on Nov 25 1646. Nothing more is known of this Jacob.

7. Antie to Jacob Engel on Oct 3 1649. Nothing more is known of him. However, Aulus and Engel may be the same name.

8. Antie to Jacob Tobyas on Dec 21 1653. Jacob Tobias, a soldier, married Aeltie Hanses of Leeuwarden on April 11 1647.

Four other men married an Antje Jacobs around the time our Antje married: Haucke Egberts Heringa (1668, a book seller), Pauwels Dichter (1666), Ernst Hendrix (1671) and Egbert Wytses (1671). Only Egbert Wytses leaves us good clues as to who his wife's family might have been.

As already stated, 3 of Antje's children's names suggest that her parents would most likely be named Jacob and Attie and a grandfather or possibly uncle Willem. These names do not appear in Fonger's family. So let's consider the Jacobs that married the Atties at the right time in Leeuwarden.

1. Attie Seerps from Harlingen married Jacob Jacobs Popta from Leeuwarden on April 11 1642 in Leeuwarden. This Jacob became a doctor in Harlingen and died in 1656. Therefore they would be unlikely to be our Antje's parents. Besides, no Willem and no daughter named Antie.

2. Attie Reiners or Annes from Leeuwarden married Jacob Johannes, a ship builder from Lekkum, on May 24 1651. No Willem; no Antie.

3. Jacob Willems Schol, a sail maker from Warga born in Amsterdam married Trijnke Hetzes in 1639. He is mentioned many times because he taught people how to make sails. No Attie, no Antie.

4. Another Jacob Wyllems had 4 children between 1658 and 1666, including an Antie in 1665. This wouldn't have been our Jacob as he most likely married too late.

5. Jacob Willems married Attje Alberts on March 26 1649. And they had a daughter named Annetie. They seem to be the only people who make sense to be our Antje Jacobs' parents since they cover the names Antje, Willem and Attie.
