Biography

William George Jacobs married Mary Ellen Hutton on 9 May 1881 in Lyndoch, South Australia. ^[1]

JACOBS HUTTON On the 9th May, at the residence of the bride's sister, Lyndoch, by the Rev. S. Howard, William George, third son of the late Joseph Jacobs, of Moculta, to Mary Ellen, youngest daughter of Mr. Zaccheus Hutton, of Freeling. ^[2]

1920 census : Ketchikan, First Judicial District, Alaska Territory, USA. William Jacobs age 65, single, year immigrated 1889, birth place Australia, birthplace of father England, birthplace of mother Ireland, occupation fisherman, industry salmon fishing. (could only find on Ancestry).

1930 census : Ketchikan, Ketchikan, First Judicial District, Alaska Territory, USA. William Jacobs age 75, single, born Australia, birthplace of father England, birthplace of mother England, year immigrated 1889, occupation fisherman, industry salmon fishing. ^[3]

William Jacobs age 78, marital status single, born in Australia about 1854, parents unknown but with a brother George living in Charters Towers Queensland, died on 21 Jan 1932 in Ketchikan, Alaska, United States. His occupation was fisherman. ^[4]

There does not appear to be a son George for Joseph Jacobs and Sarah Smith so if William Jacobs only living relative is a brother George in Charters Towers Queensland, then he is not this person.

His wife Mary Ellen claimed she was a widow when she remarried in 1901, but no death found in South Australia. If he deserted her and the children and went to the United States that would fit this time (1889-1901) but according to the obituary for sister Maria Jacobs Schroder there were 6 sisters and 4 brothers, three remained living after her death in 1941 (Ellen, Joseph and Harry), so all siblings are accounted for (i.e. no brother George). It would depend on who supplied the information for his death certificate, but definitely none of the siblings lived in Queensland.
