Elisabeth was married three times. In her first marriage, to Erik Larsson in Nybble, she had a daughter, Maria in April 1693[1] and a son, Jacob, in February 1697.[2] There are no siblings to Elisabeth among the baptism witnesses, which would have been a clue to her parents.
We find Elisabeth and Erik in the early household records for Fellingsbro.[3] The children are not mentioned, because these are records of the catechism examinations.[4][5]
Erik Larsson died in March 1698, at an age of 34 1/2.[6] While her son is a minor, Elisabeth shares the responsibility of equipping the cavalry soldier for Nybble with her neighbour, Nils Nilsson, cousin of her late husband.[7][8]
On June 4, 1699, goodwife Lisbeta Jacobsdotter in Nybble married the cavallerist Anders Hällberg in Hällby.[9] In the household record for Ryttaren Hällberg in Nybble there are examination notes only for 1700 (where others on the page have notes for 1700 to 1703. He is presumably off fighting in the Great Northern War. There are notes added later that he is dead, the text changed so that we have Hällbergs widow goodwife Lisbeta.[10] Elisabeth's children, Maria and Jacob, are also in this record. Lars is not. he household also contains a boy, Erik and a girl, Marit - foster children/underage servants. In the next record the household consists of Elisabeth, her two children and, for a time, a farm hand.[11] She is a rusthållare, because together with her neighbour Nils Nilsson she equips a cavalry soldier (at this time his name is Samuel Jernberg). She does not seem to have had any children with Anders Hällberg.
In the military roll we can see that # 75 Anders Hällberg, riding for Hällaby, was recruited from Sweden and arrived (in Poland) 20 July 1704. He died 1 January 1705 and a new soldier was recruited.[12] Hällberg has no profile because his patronymic is unknown (soldiers wer not born with their soldier name).
On October 7, 1709 Karin Jansdotter is born.[13] She is the daughter of Elisabeth Jacobsdotter and her trolovade Johan Nilsson.[14] They were handfasted, which was legally equivalent to a marriage at this time, but they did not have the blessing of the church - there was insufficient proof of the death of her second husband.
They are not able to marry until December 29, 1714 - by then Elisabeth Jacobsdotter's husband is named Johan Jernberg, since he has succeeded Samuel as the rider for Nybble.[15] Elisabeth is widowed for the third time in 1718.
The household record starting in 1722 finds Elisabeth and her youngest daughter in the household of Elisabeth's married son Jacob Ersson. Her older daughter and her husband are also in the household.[16][17][18]
The widow of salig Johan Jernberg in Nybble, who has lived for 70 years, died on November 27, 1738 and was buried December 10.[19] This would give 1668 as Elisabeth's birth year - unfortunately there is a gap in the records for Fellingsbro for a few years there.
