Biography

Christian Jacobson was born in Norway in February 1854. He appears in the 1865 census for Susendalen, Hattfjelldal as Cristian Jakobsen, age 12, born Hatfjelddals Præstegjeld. He emigrated in 1868. He was deaf through a childhood illness, and could read English but had no idea how it was pronounced because he had only ever heard Norwegian spoken. He was hit by a train, while walking on railroad tracks returning from North Dakota because he could not tell it was coming until he felt the railbed shaking.
