Biography

He lived at Bahnhostrasse 2

Norbert, his wife, brother, niece, and sister-in-law fled from Germany to Quito, Ecuador, South America during WWII to escape Nazi persecution.

In the population register of the Dutch place, Barsingerhorn. Norbert and Lotte are registered as a married couple, arriving from Duitschland (Germany) on 6 Sep 1934 and departing to the nearby municipality Wieringerwaard on 8 Oct 1934. [1] This was probably the "Nieuwesluis" Jewish Work Village, a Dutch training center founded in the 1930s in the Wieringermeer polder, near Slootdorp and opposite the village of Nieuwesluis in the neighboring Wieringerwaard polder. Here (young) Jews who had fled Germany and Austria received an agricultural vocational training, which should enable them to settle in Palestine. In addition, many settled in the United States or in South America. The village was opened in 1934, and was managed by the Joodse Arbeid Foundation. It could accommodate around 300 residents, who would follow a short (two-year) training. [2] [3]
