Conrad's Original Bible.

On page 87 and 88 the author, Henry Sylvester Jacoby, describes the steps taken over many years to locate Conrad's Bible that was finally found and examined on 27 December 1911. Several excerpts are copied below.

Mary Shull's Bible, a family relic. Presented by her grandmother, Dec. 25, 1866, Mary E. Shull on her birthday of her eightieth year." Upon reading the inscription the Bible was found to have been owned first by Conrad Jacobi, the grandfather of Mary Ellizabeth Shull. The inscription was transcribed, then translated. The printed text is in German as translated by Martin Luther, 1522-1534, and the book was published 1755 in Nuremberg.

The Inscribed Family Record.-A literal translation of the first paragraph is as follows: In the year of Christ 1730 the 7 July Conrad Jacobi was born into this world. His father was Peter Jacobi his mother Maria Elizabeth a born Heuer [ or Heier] and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin. Amen.

Names of Children and Dates of Birth-The first page of the fly-leaf contains a record of the date of Conrad's marriage, and the names and dates of birth of his ten children.

Conrad's Signature.-A 'number of his signatures were collected, which show that he always wrote the surname as Jacobi. A comparison of those with his name in two places near the top of the inscription inside of the cover of the Bible proves that Conrad wrote the inscription himself.

Locations and Land Sales Commencing on page 83 and ending on page 87 the author describes in detail Conrad's locations and extensive land acquisitions and disposals.

'Importance of Religion'

Page 84- The church and religion played an important role in Conrad's life. Conrad was a sponsor of baptisms, had his children baptized and he was elected elder to represent the Reformed congregation.

Cause of death:

On page 90- Conrad died of dropsy, 28 Mar. 1795, aged 64 years, 9 months, 17 days.

'Will"

Pages 93 and 94- Conrad's will was dated 10 Jan.179S and proved 6 Apl. 1795. The witnesses to the signing and sealing of the document were J. H. Bibigbaus and Thomas Armstrong. It directed that the real and personal estate were to be sold and that " his wife Hanna is to have a third part of the profits or interest of money arising out of the estate during her natural life." ... Seven children or all but Henry and Leonard are named in the order of their birth and all the children are to have equal shares. The will also provided for his grandchildren.

Hannah's Family Background

On page 94- the author, Henry Sylvester Jacoby writes: In the will of her father Matthias Riegel, her name is given as Johanna. The will is dated 3 Aug. 177S and was probated 21 Aug. at Easton, Pa., the home of the testator being in Lower Saucon Tp. Northampton Co. More information about Johanna/Hannah's family is found on pages 95-98 in the chapter titled Mathias Riegel.

Research Notes Difference of Dates: In the opening paragraph on page 83, Conrad's birthdate is listed as 7 July 1730. However, on page 90, Henry Sylvester Jacoby explains, in some detail, the differences in records of Conrad's death. The inscription on the marble tombstone (still well preserved in 1929), reads: "Hier ruhet Conrad Jacoby I war geboren den 7 Juni 1730 I Und gestorben den 26 Mertz 1795 I Seines Alters 64 Jahr I 9 Monath und 19 Tage. Conrad's Find A Grave Memorial has the dates: BIRTH 7 Jun 1730 and DEATH 26 Mar 1795 (aged 64). [3]

Quality of the sources The author, Henry Sylvester Jacoby describes in detail how the family histories are set out, citations are within the text and not as footnotes, how extensive information was obtained and where it was obtained. He also included 43 pages of lineages, a biographical index, Pennsylvania German and Covenanters history, Pennsylvania County histories, Church histories, estate information and much more. The book had far superior information compared to Ancestry, FamilySearch, RootsSearch, etc. The easiest to use and cleanest copy of the book was on the seekingmyroots website.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Conrad by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Conrad:

Finished for now. will be starting on father and mother.
Almost finished - however, there may be changes as I alternate between Conrad and his wife's profile.
Corrections, especially formatting being made. 3 locations for the Peter Jacoby genealogy book have been added. Page numbers have been used rather than cite every detail taken from the Peter Jacoby book.
Still working on adding some information and revising what is there.
New Information is being added- and while it is under construction - there will be mistakes, etc as I tend to dump info when I find it - so as not to lose it and then waste time re-hunting for it. Also citations, etc will eventually be added- I will provide updates here as I work on this profile
Thanks for the warning, Debbie. The Project Managers have not been active recently, but should be kept in the loop. Thanks for working on this family!
