Walter was born on the 4th January 1900 in Hartlepool, Durham, England [1]. He was the son of William Henry Jacques and Clara Annie Shepherd. He grew up in West Hartlepool with his parents and siblings [2][3].

As a late teenager her enlisted in the Royal Navy during the later stages of World War I. He served from the 18th January 1918 until the 30th July 1919. His Service Number was J83043. He served on Victory I and Queen Elizabeth. and was based in Portsmouth. [4]. In civilian life he was an electrician labourer.

Walter married Elizabeth Gertrude Armstrong in about January 1921 in Hartlepool. He was aged 21 years 1 month [5]. They initially lived with Elizabeth's family in Hartlepool [6]. They continued to live in Hartlepool and there raised their family. In 1939 Walter was a Gas Lamplighter [7].

Walter died in about June 1978 in Hartlepool, Durham. He was aged 78 years 6 months. [8].
