Biography

Louis was born in 1866 in Erie County, New York, probably in Evans where he and his family were recorded in the 1870 census. He was the son of John Jager and Magdalena ??, immigrant farmers from Germany. In the early 1870s, the family appears to have extended its farm into Eden. In about 1887, he married Caroline Emilie Henry (anglized from the original Heinrich, which was also occasionally used). They settled to farm in Eden, where they had two children, one of whom died young. Louis died in Eden of typhoid in 1892 at the age of only 26.

The Jager surname was given variously as Jaeger, Yaeger, Yager, Gaeger.
