Biography

William was born in 1874 and his second marriage record says he was born in Crewsons Corners. This is comprised of the corners of four townships in two counties, the south corner of the Town of Erin, the east corner of Guelph Eramosa, in Wellington, the west corner of Esquesing and the north corner of Nassagaweya, in Halton Hills. It was first called Ryckman's Corner after Samuel Ryckman, the surveryor, who laid out Eramosa and Nassagaweya but later changed to Crewsons Corners for the first family to live in the area. Crewsons Corners was in close proximity to the Old York Trail, the main road from Guelph to Toronto, now known as Highway #7. Although the Grand Trunk Railway passes closely to Crewsons Corners, the station was built in Acton.

He is living at home with his parents for the 1891 census in Eramosa Twp., Wellington Co., and is a salesman in a general store.

At the age of 22, in July 1896 he married Jennie B. Croft in Rockwood, Wellington Co., Ontario. She was also 22 and living in Rockwood. He was a glove maker. His brother Richard Jago from Rockwood was a witness as was A. E. Dyson from Guelph.

Their daughter Jennie was born in Acton, Halton Co. in 1899 and died 4 months later in Acton.

Shortly after her death they moved to Huntsville, Muskoka Dist. The 1901 census lists him as a tanner and they now have a daughter Edythe born in Sept. 1900 in Huntsville.

They have 2 sons born in Huntsville: Wilfred in 1902 and Lloyd in 1905.

In 1911 he works in a stable and is a liveryman living with his family in Huntsville.

He was the proprietor of a meat market in Huntsville.

His wife and sons are listed in the 1921 census living in Toronto with their uncle James Algie.

His wife Jean died in 1932 in North Bay.

For 20 years he worked for Canada Packers in Toronto. He married a widow Mary Adelaide Richard in Toronto on April 29, 1933. They were living at 444 Runnymeade Rd., Toronto and she was his housekeeper.

He worked in Barrie, Ontario for Co-Packers Ltd. from 1938 to the time of his death.

He died in Barrie, Ontario in 1943 from arteriosclerosis and diabetes. He was a salesman at the time of his death. He is buried in Union Cemetery, North Bay, Ontario. He was survived by 2 children Edythe and Lloyd.
