Cynthia (James) Tharaud was born on 8 Feb 1915 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States. She was the daughter of Warner James, a Brooklyn drug manufacturer. She was attending Cambridge University between 1936-38 when she met NZ athlete and new Olympic champion Jack Lovelock and they were engaged. She returned to the US before war broke out, then returned as a hospital volunteer in 1941. After the US entered the war she got a work assignment with the US Government (OSS) in London in 1942. Between Lovelock's medical studies and the complication of war time, they did not marry until 1945 (after her father died)
Cynthia married John Edward Lovelock on 26 Mar 1945 in St Peter's Church, Vere St, London W1, England.
Cynthia's marriage to Lovelock was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1945 in the Marylebone district.[1] Their eldest daughter Mary was born in London in 1946, then moving back to the USa as a family in 1947, their 2nd child [[Lovelock-163|Janet Evelyn (Lovelock) Baer] was born there in 1948. Jack Lovelock passed away in 1949
Cynthia married 2nd Lucien Rostaing Tharaud on 12 Sep 1951 in USA. He was a New York lawyer she had consulted about the difficulties of Jack Lovelock's estate (his financial assets were in England, but the need for money for his family was in the USA).
Cynthia died on 18 Feb 1979 in New York aged 64.
