Mary Agnes Manchester was born on 18 Feb 1891 in St Helens, Lancashire. She was the daughter of John Manchester and Margaret (Cullen) Manchester. Her birth was registered in the first quarter of 1891, in Prescot district.
By April 5th 1891, Mary's family were living in Eccleston, St Helens. Her father was working as a glassmaker, and she had one brother, John, who was three years old.
By March 31st 1901, the family were still living in Eccleston. Two more boys and another girl had been added to the family, and there were two boarders. Mary's father was still working as a glassworks labourer.
By April 2nd 1911, Mary and two of her brothers were living with their aunt and uncle, William and Esther Henderson, in Windle, St Helens. Mary was working as a domestic servant.
Mary married Richard Walter James in 1911 at St Thomas' Church in Eccleston, St Helens.
Richard enlisted as a rifleman in the South Lancashire ("pals") regiment during the First World War. As a coal miner he would have been exempt from conscription, so must have signed up voluntarily. He died of wounds on 2 Aug 1916, aged 33.
Mary married Edward Pickett in 1919 at St Thomas' Church in Eccleston, St Helens.
Edward died in 1945 in St Helens, aged 53. He was buried on 8 Mar 1945 in St Helens Cemetery.
Mary died in 1980 in Knowsley, aged 89. She was buried on 14 Nov 1980 with Edward.
