Thames Star, Thames Star, Volume XXI, Issue 6408, 25 October 1889 The many friends of Mr Henry James will learn with sincere feelings of regret of his death, which took place last evening at the residence, Pollen street. The deceased was one of the old pioneers of the Thames, having arrived here at the opening of the goldfleld from the Great Barrier, where he was previously employed in the copper mine at that place. Throughout his long residence here Mr James has always worked in the Kuranui mine, formerly as one of the employees, but as a tributer from the time that it was decided to let tributes in the ground, in which he was very successful. He has for some time past been in a delicate state of health, suffering from consumption, and consequently he was obliged to relinquish mining as a calling, and about two years ago opened a grocery establishment in Pollen street. The deceased, who was of an unassuming disposition and was universally respected, leaves a wife and six children to mourn their loss.
