Edward Washington James was born on November 13, 1879 in Winterset, Madison, Iowa, United States, son of George Washington James (1834–1916) and Lodincy Sophrona Horn (~1839–1885).[1]

In 1880, Edwin was in the household of Geo W James in Franklin, Monona, Iowa. [1]

In 1900, Edwin (20) W was in the household of Milton Renfro in Douglas Township (east part), Jackson, Kansas. [2]

Edwin (25) married Bertha Jane Wood (18) (born on September 17, 1886 in Delaware Township, Jefferson, USA) on September 9, 1905 in Jefferson County, Kansas.[3] Their children were:
