Biography

Tempie was born in 1751 possibly in North Carolina. Her parents are not known. This profile has been edited to add her father based on his will naming her as Temperance Rogers. There is a record that Tempi James married Ruben Rogers.

The book on the Cody Rogers family appears to use information from an authenticated Rogers Family Bible, and records the births, deaths and marriages of the Reuben Rogers family.

She married Reuben Rogers Sr, son of Joseph Rogers and Mary Fergeson, in 1767 in North Carolina (bondsman: James Wooten; witness: John Rand). She was about 16 years old (almost 16 years younger than Reuben). They had at least 14 children together:

Wit: Wm. Anderson Fowler, Mosias Jones. Proved March Court 1807 by oath of Nathan Massey as Anderson Fowler & Mosias Jones are both decd.

Research Notes

According to an American Genealogical-Biographical Index record (Volume 149, Page 140), Temperance Rogers was born in 1750 in Vermont.

Ancestry.com suggests Charles James (b. 1735 Kent, Maryland; d. abt 1790, Craven, North Carolina) and Sarah Strother (b. abt 1735 King George, Virginia; d. abt 1797, Craven, North Carolina), Charles was possibly the son of Capt. John James and Ann Sebastain. However, a 1772 record for John James names "Temperance James Rogers" as his daughter in his will.
