Blake Bamford James served as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On June 6th 1940 his Blenheim bomber was one of four losses sustained by 40 Squadron while attacking enemy troops between St Valery and Abbeville in northern France.[1]
