Biography

There is high confidence that the first name is Sarah. The maiden name of Jameson is based on a Geni.com entry for Sarah Park (Jameson) which lists the correct Joseph Parke as her husband, as well as their children. This contradicts Joseph's bio in "The Parke Families of Connecticut," by Frank Sylvester Parks, who states that Sarah was the widow of John Jamison (note similar but different spelling).

Stephanie's Research Notes/Conclusions Sarah Jamison was NOT the wife of John Jamison, she was his daughter.

Several historical references used by Parke family researchers state that Sarah was the ‘widow Jamison’ and a few state her to have been married to a John Jamison. This conclusion has been proved to be incorrect, Sarah was the daughter of John Jamison. I exhaustively reviewed all possible scenarios to in an attempt to verify the research conclusion that she was a widow and failed to find ANY records to support such conclusion. There were no birth records for any child of a John and Sarah in Voluntown or surrounding communities. The format of Sarah’s marriage record to Joseph Parke is not formatted as that of a widow. There was a Sarah Jamison born to John Jamison and Abigail Carter, b. 8 Oct 1711 in Boston, MA, the surname is referenced differently in Stonington church records, where that couple’s marriage is reference ‘Jemmison’. There is no John (son) with that family per the records and the historical Jamison Family History Report. There is a gap in the birth years where a John Jamison could fit, but improbable. John Sr. remarried and family remained in Stonington, this rules out John Sr. as a man of whom she could have been widowed from. The Sarah of the John/Abigail couple is the right age and location however her marriage to a James Bundy in 15 May 1735 and subsequent children births negate the match because the records demonstrate that this woman co-existed with your ancestor who was in those years married to Joseph Parke. --- The John Jemmison/Jameson married to Abigail Carter and 2nd Dorothy Pendleton, will probated 1756 we can use to separate the two family groups. Sarah Jameson who married Joseph Parke was the daughter of John Jameson who died 1734.

I located a reference ‘Jamesons in America, 1647-1900’ (in Jan 2010?) that had adjusted to this conclusion as well that Sarah Jamison was the daughter of John Jameson. The source went further to state the John was the son of William Jameson who was born abt. 1680 near Leith, EDC. John married Rosanna Irwin and they resided in Ireland until they immigrated in 1718. They arrived Aug 4 1718 and remained in Boston for a short time and then settled in Milton, MA. But in the spring of 1726 they removed to Voluntown where Mr. John Jameson died in the early spring of 1734. Mrs. Jameson died prior to her husband. The researcher for this source has gone through land and probate records tracking residence and land ownership to establish relationships. This source list the couple’s children and records their daughter Sarah marrying Joseph Parke. This source also found a legal document that Joseph Parke was given co-guardianship with Charles Campbell for the four younger siblings (Esther, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Robert) of Sarah Jamison after the death of her father. RN: I have since verified this research by reviewing the original records. I have found birth record for John in Leith and mapped the other Jamesons of Leith for the time period.

I am working to connect her parents and her children on the WikiTree.

Please be patient with me or help me get all the citations added to the records of these families. I am working on a 1500 page edit job to summarize my 20 plus year research which is a bit overwhelming. In case I die before I finish the project I wanted to 'paint a map' for others working on this challenging family group.

I have traced Sarah's ancestry and will return to this profile to update. Her parents were John Jameson and Rosanna Irwin. John was born 1680 near Leith Midlothian, Scotland. His father was William. William moved his family from Leith area to Ulster Providence of Ireland

I have collected all the info. I could from the original images of the Scotland records for the family.

RN: Those researchers who concluded that Sarah Jamieson as a widow of John Jameson, are incorrect. The family was very detailed on facts passed down through the generations AND her father’s will evidences her relationship. The CT Barbour Collection transcribed marriage record for her and Joseph does not report her as a widow or format the marriage as that of a widow as is present in the records for those years.
