He was a Private in Company E of the 2nd Regiment South Carolina Rifles (Moore's).

He was killed in action at The Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia.

May 12th 1864 was said to be the most intensive day of fighting during this battle, resulting in about 8,000 Confederate casualties.
