Died before his widow Janet remarried in 1844. The record of Janet's second marriage to Gavin Chapman lists Robert's occupation as clerk.
When Robert Jamieson married Janet Hislop, the witnesses to the marriage were Henry Jamieson {cabinet maker, 20 bank St.} and John Miller {writer with William Anderson, 12 Browns Square}.
Son James's death record lists his parents as Thomas Jamieson and [blank] Hislop. Informant was James's son Peter McGee Jamieson, who seems to have had a bad memory for names (as he gave incorrect names on several civil registration records).
So far, three records have been located that mention this Robert Jamieson:
1. 1819 marriage record in Edinburgh to Janet Hislop
2. 1844 marriage record in South Leith of Janet Hislop or Jamieson, relict {widow} of Robert Jamieson and daughter of Rev. Ebenezer Hislop, to Gavin Chapman, fireman
3. son James's death certificate, which actually has his name as Thomas Jamieson, who married {blank} Hislop. The informant on this death certificate was James's adopted son Peter McGee Jamieson, who was not very good at remembering names, as he misremembered relevant names on several certificates he was the informant for. Since Robert died at least a couple decades before Peter was born, it's not surprising that the gave an incorrect name. {Where did he get the name? Janet [Hislop] (Jamieson) Chapman's brother, who she was living with when grandson Peter was a child, was named Thomas Hislop. Peter tended to provide incorrect but almost right names as an informant,....}
Note that there are several other men named Robert Jamieson in Edinburgh in the right time period (say 1805 to 1840). Included among them are:
