Biography

Sir John Jameson[1][2]

Birth.[3]

Name: John Jameson
Father: James Jameson
Birth Date: 1680
City: Galway

John was born in 1670. He passed away about 1736. [4]

John Jameson is cited in Mennonite Records, Ancestry.com.[5]

Probate for properties in South Carolina.[6]

The following is attached John's profile at FamilySearch.org: [7] Citation: submitted earlier by marciekr, Notes: This was submitted to the paper by someone researching this family line. It was seeking the name of John's wife, and had this info: John Jamieson, resided much of time in York County, PA. Children included: Alexander; John (went to KY) [misplaced, he ended up in Cumberland and the one that went to KY was a son of Sam's.]; Samuel (went south); author did not recognize that the following were Samuel's children :] Jane (married Abner Bird, resided in VA); Thomas, born 7 Nov 1732 (married (1)1756 Jane Hickey, (2) 1764 Hannah Taggart.)

This story is also attached to the FamilySearch profile for John Jameson.[8] Emigrated to Galway, Ireland where he married & settled until 1700. Then landed and settled in South Pennsylvania on River Susquehanna not far from York. His parents lived and died in Glasgow, Scottland. Enroute to America, he was held up by Blackbeard the pirate, in mid-ocean, and divested of his coat-of-arms, which, unfortunately, was ornamented with metallic substances resembling gold and silver, which attracted the cupidity of the freebooter, and, tradition says, that James Jamison grieved more over the loss of his outer garment than all his property, and, when he arrived at" the land of the free and the home of the brave," he was a "poorer, but a wiser man," about fifty years old, bearing the simple cognomen of James Jamison.
