Biography

Frederick Jane is Notable.

John was born in 1865^[1] He was the son of John Jane Caroline Todd He was christened 23rd September 1865 at Bristol, St James, Somersetshire, England^[2] He was living with his parents and siblings in 1871^[3] He was still living with his parents in 1881^[4]

In 1890 Fred experienced the sea for the first time when he joined HMS Northampton to report on Naval exercises. He used this voyage to produce a perfect pictorial account of the Northampton's cruise from Torbay to the Azores.

He was an accomplished illustrator. "Hartmann the Anarchist: Or, The Doom of the Great City" by Edward Douglas Fawcett was published in 1892, with seventeen Full-Page and several smaller illustrations by Fred. T. Jane

He married in 1892^[5]

Jane first published All the World's Fighting Ships in February 1898 and sold 1000 copies within the first few days

In 1899 his novel entitled "The Violet Flame" featured an armament with the characteristics of a nuclear weapon and was quickly recognized as an authority on naval matters and in 1899 he was invited by Grand Duke Alexander Mihailovich to Russia to produce a book about the Imperial Russian Navy

He was living with his wife and daughter in 1901^[6]

He married again in 1909^[7] He passed away at 26 Clarence Esplanade, Southsea, Hampshire in 1916^[8] He is buried at Highland Road Cemetery^[9] Probate was granted on 19 Jun 1917 to Lionel Cecil Jane.
