"Another Pioneer gone. Horace Janes died at his residence in Berlin Township on Saturday July 14, 1877. His funeral was largely attended on Sunday. Mr. Janes was born at Grand ISle (Lake Champlain) and emigrated with his father John Janes, Sr., and settled in Berlin Township where he resided since 1817. He was the last surviving member of his father's family, all of who settled in Ohio, and members of whom were distinguished in the early history of the state, John Janes Jr. being noted as a pioneer of Methodism.
