Research Notes

LNAB is uncertain. Her proper patronymic name seems to be Jans, but the earliest record found calls her Theunis. An error? There's no evidence for her father's name, other than that he was probably named Jan, and maybe that record that calls her Theunis is based on her father's name. Anyway, both names (Jans and Theunis) need to be in the name fields. - Smith-62120 03:46, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi,

Noticed the problem with/confusion about her patronymic..it probably was Theunis, so father probably was Theunis (Unknown), Jans probably is the first name of her husband, sometimes wifes are recorded with the first name of their husbands as their patronymic/last name ? The Van Blarcom (van Blerkum) is a bit confusing, it's the place of origin of her husband and it doesn't look like she used this for last name?

Good point about the possibility that she was called Jans because Jan was her husband's first name. I have not seen that very often, particularly not as early as the 1670s, but it is possible...

She was not recorded with van Blarcom as a last name, but because her descendants used that name, it is the name that is likely to be given for her in many published genealogies, online family trees, etc. We need to include these names to help people find profiles.

Thank you Jan !

Voorthuizen is in Gelderland.

Index record of marriage proclamation has "Voorsthuijsen" as place of birth. That makes nowadays "Voorthuizen" more likely than "Huisen" (nowadays "Huizen").
