Anna (Jansen) Johnson Lubben was born on November 4, 1838 in Aurich-Oldendorf, Aurich, Niedersachsen, Germany (formerly the Kingdom of Hannover). She is the daughter of Forker Johnson and __________ . (Note: Anna was born a Jansen and changed her last name to Johnson when she came to the United States. Later, she added Lubben to her last name.) [1] [2] [3]
The 1860 Federal Census listed Anna and her brother Garrett as living with Heinrich "Henry" Garbers, his wife Gesche Ulfers (Balk) (Wilts) (Freese) Garbers, their daughters Ann and Mary and their son Henry in Township 19 Range 7, Menard, Illinois. [4] (Note: Gesche Ulfers (Balk) (Wilts) (Freese) Garbers' brother was Jurgen Balk, Anna's future husband.)
Anna (Jansen) Johnson Lubben married Jurgen Focken Ulfers Balk on August 30, 1862 in Petersburg, Menard, Illinois by the Rev. Paul Sorentsen. [5] [6]
The 1870 Federal Census listed Anna as living with her husband Jurgen, her son John Henry and her daughters Maria Anna "Mary" and Amelia in Township 19, Range 7, Menard, Illinois. [7]
The 1880 Federal Census listed Anna as living with her husband Jurgen, her sons John Henry and Dirk Jurgen and her daughters Maria Anna "Mary", Amelia and Emma in Ash Grove Township, Iroquois, Illinois. [8]
Circa 1889, Anna and her family moved to Waterbury Township, Redwood, Minnesota.
The 1895 Minnesota State Census listed Anna as living with her husband Jurgen and her sons Dirk Jurgen and Albert Jurgen in Waterbury Township, Redwood, Minnesota. [9] (Note: Anna had been living in Waterbury Township and Minnesota for 6 years.)
The 1900 Federal Census listed Jurgen as living with his wife Anna, his sons Alfred Jurgen and Dirk Jurgen and his daughter-in-law Pauline Caroline (Karau) in Waterbury Township, Redwood, Minnesota. [10]
The 1905 Minnesota State Census listed Anna as living with her husband Jurgen, her sons Alfred Jurgen and Dirk Jurgen, her daughter-in-law Pauline Caroline (Karau) and her grandson Erich Henry in Waterbury Township, Redwood, Minnesota. [11] (Note: Anna had been living in Waterbury Township and Minnesota for 17 years.)
The 1910 Federal Census listed Anna as living with her husband Jurgen in Waterbury Township, Redwood, Minnesota. [12]
Anna passed away on June 13, 1916 in Wanda, Redwood, Minnesota at age 77. [13] [14] [15] She was buried in Wanda Cemetery in Wanda, Redwood, Minnesota. [16]
