In 1574, Jan Jansz alias Reus was living on the north end of Koedijk. That year he leased some land around the Amersweyde. In 1582 he leased another field west of the Coedycker canal. In 1588 he leased more land in de Buynen and Koedijk. Then in 1594 he sold some land in Koedijk that was named de Breetuyne. He had a brother Cornelis that he rented some of this land with in 1588.[1]
There was at least one other Rus family living in Koedijk. They would have been close relatives. H de Vries has a line for this family that goes further back than ours - if we had the documentation they'd probably connect. Here are the earliest generations:
We don't know when this family became Mennonite, but we do know their grandchildren weren't baptized in the Reformed church and a generation later were found in Mennonite baptism records. The Mennonite faith was practiced in this area as early as the mid 1500's.
