Isabella was born in 1848. Isabella Jardine ... She passed away in 1947.
England Civil Registration, June Quarter 1875, London Central District, 1c:68
The fact that John and Isabella married in London rather than in Glasgow suggests that they may have eloped. Isabella was already several months pregnant at the time, and it appears that from London John and Isabella went to Brockville, Canada to have their child. Isabella had relatives of her maternal grandmother Anderson, who lived nearby in Huntingdon County, Québec, and may have aided them. They did not stay long in Canada, as they were back in Glasgow in time for the birth of their second son in 1878. Amy always claimed to have been born in Scotland 23 August 1875, but there is no record of her birth in Scotland.
