Walter Cook Jardine was born on 18th March 1887 in Rockhampton, Queensland (Australia). He was the third son of Robert Jardine and Mary Pearce. [1] He was a great great grandson of convicts George Patfield (Neptune 1790), Mary O'Brien (Bellona 1793), Thomas Anlezark (Perseus 1802) and Ann Starmer (Experiment 1804). Thomas Anlezark became famous as a Trooper in the Vinegar Hill convict uprising of March 1804.
Walter grew up in North Rockhampton; attending North Rockhampton Primary School and Rockhampton Grammar School.
By 1916 Walter owned a motorcycle and bicycle business in Rockhampton and, as did his younger brother Charles, claimed exemption from conscription to the Australian Army. The Capricornian reported the decisions of the Military Exemption Court on Saturday, 25th November 1916: [2]
No subsequent enlistment documentation has yet been located.
Walter married Meta Mark on 5th April 1930 in Queensland. [3]
He passed away, aged 52 years and one week, on 25th March 1939 in Rockhampton and is buried in North Rockhampton Cemetery, Church of England Section. [4][5]
