Service ended:

Floyd Albert Jares was born April 11, 1920[1][2] in Byron Township (North of Staples), Cass, Minnesota. His parents were Anthony Louis Jares and Mary Nanik. The family lived on a small farm and traveled to Staples to purchase necessities.[3] He was the third oldest of ten children.

Floyd was fourteen when his father died. It was necessary for him to leave country school and work to support the family. So he only earned an eighth grade education.

He traveled west to Susanville, California where sister Mary Ann lived with her husband.[4] He was inducted into the Army and became a cook during his time served for World War Il.[5]

While in the army, he requested to take training to be a carpenter where he learned these skills.

He returned after the war to Staples where he worked as a cabinetmaker. He expanded his business and built large buildings with a crew of many men. His youngest sister, Katherine, lived with him and came home from high school during her lunch hour and made lunch for the crew. In 1950, he lived on the south side of Staples with his siblings: Harold, Frank, Ken, Violet and Kay.[6]

Floyd married Iris Veronica Hoemberg, February 18, 1954 in Long Prairie, Todd, Minnesota. Their first home was on the south side of Staples, Todd, Minnesota. They later moved to fourth north street. In 1973, Floyd moved his family to their farm in Motley, Todd, Minnesota.

During their early marriage, Floyd and Iris traveled in a trailer to neighboring states. With his crew, he built several large buildings. Iris cooked for the men.

Floyd was the father of five boys: Mark[7], Jay[8], Floyd, Jr.[9], Phillip[10] and James[11]. He continued his construction business and maintained the family farm.

The farm was two miles southwest of Motley, Todd, Minnesota. It consisted of almost 400 acres. Some of the land was rented to other farmers so they could pasture their cattle. Fifteen acres were planted sweet corn while other fields grew corn to feed the animals. Livestock included: cows, pigs, chickens, geese, rabbits. Several horses grazed the land. In 1974, Floyd was interested in having a game farm where others could come and hunt. He purchased 500 pheasant chicks. His son Phillip was responsible to feed them and remove dead chicks. Unfortunately, only 20 chicks survived to maturity when they were released.

In the late 80's Floyd's health declined and it was discovered that he had an inoperable brain tumor. He underwent therapy but never recovered to enjoy the few remaining years. He moved to the Staples nursing home where he died November 23, 1991.[12] He is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Staples, Wadena, Minnesota. [13]
