Obituary

MR. JESSE JARRELL DIED YESTERDAY MORNING

Yesterday morning about 8 o'clock occurred the unexpected death of Mr. Jesse L. Jarrell, aged about 68 years, and for twenty years a resident of this county. He was taken sick five or six weeks ago with acute indigestion, recovered slightly from the attack and then grew worse again. It was not thought after he rallied that his illness was fatal, and his death yesterday morning was not expected.

The funeral will be held today at 2 o'clock from Emmanuel church of which Mrs. Jarrell is a member. Rev. Troy Beatty, conducting the services, assisted by Rev. C. C. Jarrell,^[2] pastor of the First Methodist church. After the services the casket will be borne to the Georgia railroad station to take the afternoon train for Crawford, accompanied by the funeral party. The pall bearers are:

Active: Messrs. W. E. Jackson, Paul Jackson, Henry Jackson, C. W. Green, and J. W. Jarrell, Jr., of Athens, and W. H. Jarrell, of Cornelia; honorary: Messrs. J. M. Hodgson, Jack F. Jackson, J. N. Williamson, Thomas F. Comer, Thomas J. Shackelford and Frank A. Lipscomb.

Mr. Jarrell will be buried in the old family plat at Crawford this evening.

Mr. Jarrell came to Clarke county from Oglethorpe twenty years ago and lived on a beautiful farm near the old University Farm property - his home place being known far and wide as Meadow Brook Farm. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Jessie Jarrell. Three brothers survive Messrs. Henry Jarrell, of LaGrange, J, W, Jarrell, of Lexington, and C. W. Jarrell, of Athens; one sister, Mrs. J. F. Jackson, mother to Walter E. Jackson of this city.

He was prominent in the life of the county; an enterprising and progressive farmer; a good citizen who studied public questions and acted conscientiously upon his judgment In all matters of citizenship. His place will be indeed difficult to fill.^[3]
