William Jayne IV, was one of six sons of William Jayne III. They all served in the Revolutionary War. He was the only son not to hold a commission. His brother, Timothy was a captain. He and his entire company, including brothers Isaac, a lieutenant, and Ebenezer, an ensign, were taken prisoner by the British and held in deplorable conditions for a period of two years.
William was killed at the Battle of Fort Washington.
