Samuel Jefferds b 1752 Boston, MA- Aug., 1804 Cold Spring Putnam, New York.
Entered the Continental Army 1 Jan 1778 at the age of 23 as first Sergeant in Mass State artillery Company. He was a lieutenant in the 61st Regiment Infantry from Putnam County. He served through War of the Revolution and three additional years. Captain Samuel Jefferds, a gallant officer of the Revolution, and a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, who after the war resided in Philipstown, now Putman County." Lieutenant Jefferds signs 29 December 1783 from Fort Rensselaer, Canajoharie, New York. Henry Knox signs 7 March 1784 at Dorchester, MA. Knox asserts that this return is a copy from the original forwarded to Charles Knowles, paymaster of the Massachusetts artillery. Knox was assisting Jefferds obtain pay for himself and his men. [1]
