When Levi Walter Jefferies was born on November 5, 1873, in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales, his father, John, was 28 and his mother, Eliza (née Hook), was 25. He married Kate Sophia Challis on March 26, 1902, in Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. They had five children during their marriage. He died on May 3, 1954, in Levin, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand, at the age of 80.
