Benjamin Jeffers, 24, passed away on 26 July 1864 at the Andersonville Prison, Andersonville, Sumter, Georgia. He was born on 25 March 1840 at Rose, Wayne, New York, a son of John J. Jeffers, 1796-1876.
Private Benjamin was a member of the Union Army during the American Civil War. He was assigned to the 9th heavy artillery regiment of New York. Following his capture he was sent to the Andersonville Prison where he later died.
His other immediate family members included: his siblings, Margaret (Jeffers) Wiley, 1827-1899; Polly Jane (Jeffers) Jenks, 1830-1897; and John J. Jeffers, 1851-1904.
He is buried at the Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville National Historic Site, Macon County, Georgia; plot: row 3984. The Findagrave memorial ID is 5113895.
