Robert died in South Shields in 1846, age 60 years [3]
His entry in the probate calendar reads:
Jefferson Robert (Personal Estate £5,721 6s 6d) 3 June 1882. Administration with the Will of the Personal Estate of Robert Jefferson formerly of Bank Top but late of Westoe both near South Shields in the county of Durham, ship owner, who died 25 June 1846 at Westoe, left unadministered by Jane Jefferson widow the Relict, Robert Balleny esquire, and Francis Jefferson the brother, the executors, was granted at Durham to William Jefferson of 92 Church Road, Essex Road in the county of Middlesex, gentleman, the son one of the residuary legatees substituted. Former grants Consistory Court of Durham and Prerogative Court of Canterbury November 1846.[4]
