Margaret was the widow of John Hutchinson from the Jerseys, as the late Rev Jacob Bailey, Bailey-14862 the frontier missionary writes, who married them. [1]
R.B. Nichol Note: For a very long time, descendants of Margaret [Hutchinson] Wiswal believed that her maiden name was "Cornwallis," because in her family Bible, which she gave to Francis Megimes Hutchinson, the following is handwritten: "Francis Hutchinson, Digby, January 30th, 1834. Given him by his great grandmother Margaret Wiswal Cornwallis Nova Scotia." As no one has been able to identify any actual Cornwallis family line in Britain [not including those offspring of the Earls of Cornwallis, who carried the name as a heriditary title], it is now generally concluded that the inscription is intended to indicate Cornwallis Township [present-day Kentville], where the giving of the Bible took place. A comma or two would have been helpful!
Pearl Saunders has the Kings Co. Historical Society CD of cemetery data, which provided this entry for Margaret's burial in Kentville:
"Wiswell Margaret Wiswall, Margaret widow of Rev. John Wiswall, Missionary in Wilmont, d. 6 Aug 1830 at 93 years St John's Church St " --How Margaret came to be buried so far away from Wilmot, where the Rev. Wiswall was buried in 1812, is a mystery.
