Biography

Thomas was born about 1844-1846. He supposedly lied about his age at the time of enlistment into the Civil War.[citation needed] He was a member of the 42nd Regt. PA Bucktails and lost an eye during the Civil War.

Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth Frances Clover were married about 1870. From US Census records, they had at least the following children:

  • William Frank Jefferson, b. 3 Nov 1870; married; d. 6 Feb 1923 at Ridgway, Elk, PA. Mother was Elizabeth Clover, born in Jefferson County, PA.[1]
  • Charles Jefferson; b. 23 Jul 1873; d. 28 Jul 1930 at Conewango, Warren, PA. Mother was Elizabeth Clover, b. England.[2]
  • Leroy Jefferson, b. 3 Feb 1875; d. 8 Feb 1953 at Conewango, Warren, PA.[3]
  • Earl Jefferson, b. ca. 1877
  • Thomas Harrison Jefferson, b. 11 Feb 1879; widowed; d. 4 Sep 1955 at Warren, Warren, PA.[4]
  • Barton Alden Jefferson, b. 25 Dec 1882; not married; d. 30 March 1965[5]
  • Grace Jefferson, b. 1 Aug 1885; m. John Henry Wicks; d. 24 Dec 1960 at Ridgway, Elk, PA[6]

In 1880, Thomas Jefferson, a 32 year old laborer b. England, lived with his wife Elizabeth, 32, b. England, and 5 children b. Pennsylvania.[9]

When the Veterans Census was taken in 1890, Thomas H. Jefferson was living in Spring Creek Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania. He said that he was a Private, Company H, 11 Pen Res. and 4 Pen Cal. from 15 July 1861 to 15 Jan 1863, and he served for 1yr and 6 months. His post office address was Hartman, Erie County. He suffered from typhoid fever and the loss of 1 eye.[10]

In 1900, Tomas Jefferson, a 54 year old common laborer b. England, lived in Spring Creek Township, Elk, Pennsylvania, with his wife Elizabeth, 42, and 4 children, all born in Pennsylvania.[11]

In 1910, "Tomas" Jefferson, a 55 year old common laborer b. England, lived in Spring Creek Township, Elk, Pennsylvania, with his wife Elizabeth and 4 children. Elizabeth and the children were all born in Pennsylvania.[12]

Thomas Harrison Jefferson, died on 17 Nov 1910 at Spring Creek Township, Elk, Pennsylvania. He was born in on 16 July 1844 in England. Grace Jefferson of Ridgway, Pa, was the informant on the Death Certificate. He as to be buried in Lake City, Pa.[13] He was buried at the Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, Elk County, Pennsylvania, USA.[14] His gravestone says:

"Thomas H. Jefferson
42th Regt.
PA Bucktails
1845 - 1910"

There were two men named Thomas Jefferson about the same time. They were merged because they were shown with the same wife. I am removing the wrong wife.
