The reason I say this is that I have been going through this article entering the Jeffersons given there into WikiTree:
Rev. C. M. Lowther Bouch, "The Jeffersons of Westward. Part II.", Trans. Cumberland & Westmorland Antiq. Archaeol. Soc., Vol 42 (1942), pp. 103-111. https://doi.org/10.5284/1062942 The Jeffersons of Westward. Part II
In that article it says
"XIIc. William, the only son of Robert and Eleanor Jefferson to have issue, was a shipowner at Whitby, and died at Goatland, near there, 5 June, 1923. His wife's name is unknown. By her, he had issue:
Alfred Jefferson, of whom next.
Thomas.
Lancelot."
This William is clearly the same as the one described in the article (ship owner in Whitby, born in Carlisle, census returns say b. Carlisle not Thursby, they also show he had sons with all three names given in the article, as well as a number of other children. The probate of the William Jefferson who died 5 June, 1923 in Goathland, near Whitby named all three of these sons as the executors of his will), except he has different parents and siblings.
The author of this article (who was a cousin of my mother's) says he got in touch with members of the family then living (including a Mrs Lancelot Jefferson), so we should regard the article as having first-hand information and not just being based on a search of birth, marriage & death records.
If anyone has any information that contradicts my view please post it here. If no-one does, then I will in due course adopt this profile and make the changes.
