According to the 1939 Register, Arthur's date of birth was 12 Sep 1862.[1] Most census records give his birthplace as Birmingham in Warwickshire but one as Lichfield in Staffordshire (circa 24 miles apart).
Some questions as to his parentage. Seems likely his actual father may have been Alexander Clement Foster Gough one of whose mistresses was his mother Harriet.
Career
In 1895, he was the Lessee and Manager of the Eden theatre in Bishop Auckland.[2]
In 1902, he was the Lessee and Manager of the Metropole theatre in Glasgow.[3]
In 1907, he was the Managing Director of the Metropole theatre in Glasgow.[4] His son Gordon was the Acting-Manager.[4]
