William and his family moved to Stratford in 1871 and bought out the Triller Bros. Hardware Store. He handed over the business to his sons in 1885 and he then devoted his time to insurance and accounting. William was a lifelong Reformer and always took a deep interest in public affairs. He was a Presbyterian and was, for many years, an elder in Knox Church. William is interred in the Avondale Cemetery, Stratford, Ontario, Section L, Lot 045, Sublot 1.
