Biography

Joseph Jeffrey was a Native American and member of the Nehantic tribe.

"Joseph served fro many years on the Narraganset Sachem's advisory council. The senior Joseph Jeffrey was allotted a piece of land on the reservation in Charlestown, Washington County, Rhode island, where he built a house about 1720. This house still stand in Charlestown, today."

"It should be noted here that the Narragansett and eastern Nehantic people had combined in to one group under Ninigret in about 1676. The descendants of Ninigret continued to be Sachems for quite some time.
