Biography

Emma Jeffs was born on 27 Jan 1836 in Coventry, Warwickshire, England to Joseph Jeffs and Eliza (Harrow) Jeffs.

She was initially christened at Saint John, Coventry on 29 Feb 1836,[1] but then was christened again at Vicar Lane Independent, Coventry on 21 Aug 1836.[2]

In 1841 Emma Jeffs (age 5) lived at SE Side High St Hill Field in Coventry Holy Trinity with her father Joseph (30), mother Eliza (30, Weaver), and three siblings: James (8), Willm (3), and Mary (4 months).[3]

In 1851 Emma Jeffs (age 16, Silk Ribbon Weaver) lived at Cook Street in Holy Trinity [Coventry] with her father Joseph (40, Silk Ribbon Weaver), mother Eliza (39, Silk Ribbon Weaver), and three siblings: James (17, Haberdasher), William (13, Scholar), and Esther Ann (3).[4]

Emma Jeffs married Thomas Pears in 1859.

Emma and Thomas had nine children:

  3. Emily (Pears) Mosedale (1866-1956)
  4. Alice Pears (1868-1889)

  8. Ada Elizabeth (Pears) Hatch (1874-1972?)
  9. Horace George Pears (1877-1951)

In 1861 Emma Pears (age 24, Silk Ribbon Weaver) lived in St Peter, Birmingham, Warwickshire with her husband Thomas (22, Watch Jeweller).[5]

In 1871 Emma Pears (age 35, Cook) lived in Holy Trinity [Coventry] with her husband Thomas (32, Watchmaker & Jeweler) and five daughters: Laura (8, Scholar), Clara (6, Scholar), Emily (4), Alice (2), and Theresa (0).[6]

In 1881 Emma Pears (age 45) lived at Upper Jenner St in Coventry Holy Trinity with her husband Thomas (42, Watch Jewel Hole Maker) and eight children: Laura (18, Watch Jewel Hole Maker), Clara (16, Watch Jewel Hole Maker), Emily (15, Watch Jewel Hole Maker), Alice (13, Scholar), Therza (11, Scholar), Bertha (9, Scholar), Ada (7, Scholar), and Horace (4).[7]

In 1891 Emma Pears (age 55) lived in Coventry with her husband Thomas (58[53], Grocers Master) and five children: Emily (24, Watch Jewel Hole Maker), Thereza A (20, Watch Jewel Hole Maker), Bertha (17, Dressmaker), Ada (16, Watch Jewel Hole Maker), and Horace G (14, Scholar).[8]

In 1901 Emma Pears (age 65) lived in Coventry with her husband Thomas (63, Grocer) and three daughters: Thirza (29, Jewel Hole Maker), Bertha (26, Dressmaker), and Ada (25, Jewel Hole Maker), as well as boarder William Wright (35, Stone Mason).[9]

Emma's husband Thomas Pears passed away in 1902.

In 1911 Emma Pears (age 75) lived in Coventry St Thomas with her son-in-law William Dickens Wright (45, Stone Mason), daughter Thirza Wright (40), and two grandsons: William Thomas Wright (6) and Stanley Robert Wright (5).[10]
