Biography

Henry Jelly was born 28 Oct 1860 in Bath, Somerset, England to Edward Jervis Jelly and Jane Maria (Payne) Jelly.[1] His birth was registered in Bath in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Payne.[2]

Henry's mother passed away in 1869, and his father married Susannah Elizabeth Lapington in 1870.

In 1871 Henry Jelly (age 10, Scholar) lived in Kingholm St Catherine, Gloucestershire with his father Edward J (40, Carpenter & Joiner), stepmother Susannah E (35), and five siblings: James E (20, Carpenter), William J (17, Mason), Francis (14, Machinist), Frederick G (7, Scholar), and Alfred (4, Scholar).[3]

In 1881 Henry Jelly (age 20, Painter & Decorator) lived at Laurel Rd in Leicester St Margaret, Leicestershire with his brother Edward (30, Carpenter & Joiner) and sister-in-law Elizabeth (25, Dressmaker).[4]

Henry Jelly married Lillie Bett on 17 Oct 1887 at St Matthias Church, Sneiton, Nottinghamshire. The marriage was registered in Nottingham in the last quarter of the year.[5]

Henry and Lillie had nine children: Edward Frederick Bett Jelly (1887-1972), Blanche (Jelly) Nurse (1889-1959), George Henry Jelly (1892-1967), Jane Elizabeth (Jelly) Bakewell (1895-1970), Alice Jelly (1897-), Samuel Jelly (1898-1918), John Alfred Jelly (1900-1968), William Jelly (1904-1979), and Frank Jelly (1907-1953).

In 1891 Harry Jelly (age 30, Painter) lived at Brook Street in Carlton, Nottinghamshire with his wife Lily (26) and two children: Edward F B (3) and Blanche (1).[6]

In 1901 Henry Jelly (age 40, Painter House) lived at Thornegate Street in Kettering, Northamptonshire with his wife Lillie (36) and six children: Edward (14), Blanch (13), George (10), Alice (6), Samuel (4), and John (0).[7] Daughter Jane E (6) was living with Lillie's mother and stepfather.

Henry Jelly passed away on 13 Jan 1907, aged 46 years. His death was registered in Basford, Nottinghamshire in the first quarter of the year.[8][9]
