Biography

Quoted from Early Friends Families of Upper Bucks, by Roberts and Ely (1925):

"JOHN JEMISON2 (William'), only child of William and Jane Jemison, born in 1710, probably accompanied his parents to Pennsylvania from the north of Ireland. He inherited the 250 acre tract patented to his father, and purchased in 1746, 160 acres adjoining, and lived thereon until his death about 7 mo. 1, 1776.

He was commissioned a Justice of the Peace 12 mo. 17, 1745-46, and was regularly recommissioned thereafter up to the time of his death. In writing his name he used an e instead of an a for the second letter, as did his father; other members of this family used the a. The letter e was used in spelling this name in Penna. Archives, Vol. VI.

His will, dated June 15, 1776, was probated in Philadelphia July 9, 1776. It devised to his eldest son Joseph 130 acres, part of the old plantation, on which Joseph was then living, which included the site of the dwelling and pottery lately owned and operated by Sylvester Clinker on the road extending from the southwestern corner of Richland to the Sumneytown Road, south of Trumbauersville. The remaining 275 acres of his land was devised to his two younger sons, William and John, but John later acquired of his brother Joseph the pottery site and lived and died there. The will of John Jemison, Esq., gave legacies to his daughters Jane Edwards and Mary Pennington. Margaret was already deceased. John Jemison, Esquire, as he is invariably mentioned in the records, married Alice Edwards, daughter of John and Mary (Howell) Edwards, of Milford" [1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
