Biography

Charles Jencks was born at Smithfield, Rhode Island on August 7, 1767, son of Christopher and Hannah (Whipple) Jencks. [1] [2]

He married, as his second wife, Martha Mowry, daughter of Colonel Elisha and Phebe (Gulley) Mowry of Smithfield, Rhode Island on January 22, 1797. [3] She was born on February 6, 1777.[4]

As a young man, he had been employed by her father Elisha at Warehouse Point, where he maintained stores from his West Indies trade. [2]

She died March 11, 1828, aged 51 years. [4] [2] [5]

He died July 4, 1838. [4] [2]
