Louis was born about 1813. He married Sarah Garner on 25 December 1836 in Franklin county, Georgia. [1][2][3]

Between 1842 and 1847 Louis and Sarah had moved to Newton, Newton County, Mississippi. Louis and Sarah were both 37 years old. They had four children: George age twelve born in Georgia, William age ten born in Georgia; Francis eight years old born in Georgia; and Martha age three born in Mississippi. Louis was a farmer. [4]

By the time of the 1860 census,Louis and Sarah along with Marion, [Francis Marion] eighteen years old born in Georgia, and Martha, thirteen years old born in Mississippi, had moved to Perry County, Mississippi. Louis had purchased real estate valued at $1,000 and the families' personal property was valued at $3,000. Louishad become a Baptist minister while Sarah stayed at home with their children keeping house. Sarah could not read or write. Marion [Francis Marion] and Martha attended school.[5]
