Maria Jenkins and Thomas Eakin
As an infant [6 months] she sailed to Geelong with parents Charles and Elizabeth in 1853 to live at Leigh Rd. Victoria, Australia. [5]Today Leigh Rd is called Bannockburn.
She would have remembered little of the first journey that she took in her new land from the Port of Geelong to a small hut close to the Moorabool River at Russell's Bridge [near Bannockburn].
She and Thomas conceived the following children: Louisa, Stewart Hartley, Else may, Amie Maria, Lena Jane, Sarah Elizabeth, Florence Grace. [6]
Apart from her marriage to Thomas Eakin and the registration of her issue of seven children to Thomas, six of which were girls little is known of her life in Australia.
She married Thomas circa 1878 and died in Kew, Melbourne, at the age of 71. [7] She is buried at the Kew Cemetery.[8]
