Note: Enlisted in Company A, 14th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 30 Mar 1861, at the age of 21. Promoted to Full Sergeant on 1 Nov 1861. Promoted to Full 3rd Lieutenant on 27 Apr 1862. Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 6 Jul 1862. Promoted to Full Captain on 1 Mar 1864. Surrendered Company A, 14th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 9 Apr 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA. Wilson Jenkins was a distinguished officer in the Civil War, leading the last charge at Appamatox, according to family legend. At Sharpsburg, a bullet hit Lt. Jenkins in the forehead, but glanced off his hat band, following the band around the head and exiting out the back of the hat (Gallagher, The Antietam Campaign, p.234). [5]
